However, the good letters are written by faculty who know you well, from whom you have taken multiple classes or have completed substantial projects or who can recognised you throughout your education and have received very positive evaluations. Professors provide insight into your academic competencies and aptitude as well as professional ethics that may contribute to your potential to succeed in graduate schools, such as motivation, conscientiousness, and timeliness.

A recommendation letter can also be requested from an employer where he/she currently working or worked in the past. Employer who knows the employee from inside out especially when worked together for certain period of time. Probably he/she is the best person to provide your recommendation. So if it is graduate school that you planning to apply then ask your employer to give you a glowing reference.
